Wins 2009 Greater Austin Business Award
AUSTIN, TEXAS (August 27, 2009) — Dadnab
won the Take on Traffic award in in the small
business category at the 2009 Greater Austin Business Awards. The award honors
businesses that reduce traffic and vehicle miles traveled.
Each year,
the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce awards small, medium, large businesses
and non-profit organizations in a variety of different categories. This year's awards ceremony took place
Wednesday, August 26th at the Hilton Austin Hotel and included over 100
finalists. Dadnab
was one of four finalists in its category.
Dadnab is a transit texting application that enables
riders to obtain schedule information from their mobile phones. A user of the service sends a text message
with an origin, destination, and optional departure time. Moments later, Dadnab
replies with the most convenient itinerary for reaching the destination by public
transportation.
Roger L.
Cauvin, who created and operates the service, accepted the award.
"Not
knowing what bus or train to take is a major 'fear factor' that keeps people
from using public transportation. With Dadnab, both new and existing transit riders can rest
assured they will get the schedule information they need while they are on the
go," says Cauvin.
"By
eliminating barriers to transit use and improving the rider experience, Dadnab increases ridership and reduces dependency on the
automobile," continues Cauvin.
Dadnab is based in Austin but operates in nine other
regions, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Dallas,
Houston, Portland, Seattle, Southern California, and the New York/New
Jersey/Connecticut tri-state area.
